How to place speakers in Home Theater Systems

HiFi

When placing your speakers, start from your listening position. Place your speakers well apart and well away from the sidewalls. The basic rule of speaker positioning is the triangle. The distance from you to each speaker should be more than the distance between the speakers. This will give a good sonic picture.

By toeing-in your speakers (angling them toward the listening position) you often improve the stereo image. Experiment with position to get the best results.

If you use floorstanding speakers they will be in the height of your head when sitting in your listening position. If you use smaller speakers, you will need speakerstands to get to the right height. If you plan to place your speakers in a bookshelf, make sure that the speaker’s don’t have a bass reflex port on the rear. If they do they will not play very well in the shelf. Speakers need space to work well.
